O Namibia,
Your deserts are warm,
And your droughts long
But the promise of a thunderstorm
Is present in the birdsong

O Namibia,
Your days may be exhausting
Yet every day the Lord hangs his sunset over me
All the gold in the world ain’t close to what I am witnessing
Surrounded by an orange and red sea,
O Namibia,
Underneath the burning sky
Golden hues stretch wider
As the sun is getting ready to say goodbye
And the purples deepen at the day’s divider

The heavens declare the Glory of God
And the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
There is something about sunsets that just hits differently. Every Namibian and visitor to
Namibia will be familiar with the extremely hot days where the sun is relentless. Lots of
water, rain and greenery are not things the land of the brave knows. But no matter how
harsh the day was, as soon as the day turns into stars, the harshness and heat of the
sun turns into a canvas of rainbow colours.

Many people, including my own experience, can testify that sunsets in Namibia is a
spectacular sight. The golden hues stretch wider and the pinks and purples are deeper.
It feels as if the entire sky is on fire. It is not just a scene unfolding before you but rather
a scene of colours that engulf one.

Namibia does not have a lot of pollution that scatters the sun’s rays which creates an
unfiltered sunset. Although most parts of the country are largely a desert, the warm
climate means warmer light and longer golden hours. Due to its latitude, the sun rays
travel in more direct paths overhead and set at a sharper angle.
At the end of each day, we are reminded of nature’s quiet grandeur. Witnessing a
Namibian sunset is more than just the view; it is about feeling the land breathe. It is a
moment of complete surrender and just being in the moment. The Namibian sunsets
are reason enough to visit and fall in love with the land of the brave.
